Du Bois, WEB
(1868-1963) African American Civil Rights Activist, writer, sociologist. Du Bois grew up in Great Barrington, Massachusetts and was from Dutch and African descent. Du Bois is known for the several books that he wrote including "The Philadelphia Negro", "The Souls of Black Folks", "Black Reconstruction", and "The Negro" to name a few. A contemporary of Booker T. Washington, Du Bois was labeled the father of Pan-Africanism and carried on the discourse on segregation and the improvement of life for African Americans. At the age of 95 he went to Ghana with his second wife and became a citizen.
