(1805-1879) An American abolitionist, Garrison was a founder of the American Anti-Slavery Society and a the editor of The Liberator, a radical weekly abolitionist newspaper. In 1835, Garrison was dragged through the streets by pro-slavery protesters for his beliefs. Garrison was known for his radical freedom and demanded universal emancipation to all slaves immediately. He was also an adovcate of women's rights and played a large role in the women's suffrage movement.
